Location: Sukhna Lake is a man-made reservoir located in the sector 1 of Chandigarh City at the foothills of the Great Himalayas, the Shivalik Hills. This wonderful place has got a broad walkway, a cafeteria, an amusement park and paddleboats to move around in the lake.

sukhna lakeCreated: Chief Engineer P.L.Verma formed this spectacular lake with the help of Le Corbusier in the year 1958. This artificial lake got created when the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal watercourse was dammed. Le Corbusier was not mistaken in his anticipation that at one point of time the city people would look forward towards a place of tranquility and would like to rediscover the serenity of the nature. The wise thoughts of Corbusier were made the dreams come through by some of the great planners of the Chandigarh City. To maintain the calm and quiet environment of this lake, motor boats are not allowed here and the boardwalk of this magnificent lake should not have vehicles allowed on it. To the south of this lake, there is a links course and to the west is the well known Rock Garden of Chandigarh.

About the place: This lake arranges for the rowing and yachting championships of Asia and is also famous for various other types of water sports like kayaking, sculling and water skiing. Not only for the walkers to maintain the health but the scintillating beauty of this Sukhna Lake attracts people from every walk of the life. Since its creation, this lake has been the home for various exotic migratory birds.

How to reach:

By Road: One can enjoy the beautiful road journey to Chandigarh using the national highways. One of them is No.21 joining Kinnaur and Ambala and the other one is No.22 joining Leh and Chandigarh. Various bus facilities are there like the ordinary, deluxe or semi-deluxe buses which join Chandigarh to the other cities around.

By Train: Chandigarh is connected to many important cities. Shatabdi Express and Himalayan Queen are two daily trains which connect Chandigarh with Delhi, the India Capital.

By Air: The airport which is located about 12 kms from the center of the city connects Chandigarh with important places like Delhi, Amritsar and Leh.
